Cookie & Tracking Policy

Effective date: May 4, 2026

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, provide analytics, and remember your preferences.

2. How We Use Cookies

Kitchen Yard uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the Platform to function. They include authentication tokens (managed by Supabase Auth), session identifiers, and CSRF protection. You cannot opt out of these cookies as the Platform would not work without them.

  • sb-access-token / sb-refresh-token: Authentication session managed by Supabase. Keeps you logged in.
  • ky-theme: Stores your dark/light mode preference.

2.2 Functional Cookies

These cookies remember your choices and preferences to provide a better experience.

  • Location preferences: Your selected delivery zip code or city.
  • Cart state: Items in your shopping cart between sessions.

2.3 Analytics Cookies

We may use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the Platform. These cookies collect information in an aggregated, anonymous form.

  • Google Analytics (if enabled): Tracks page views, session duration, and traffic sources. Data is anonymized and not linked to your personal identity.

2.4 Marketing Cookies

Kitchen Yard does not currently use marketing or advertising cookies. We do not serve third-party ads or track you across other websites. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and request your consent.

3. Third-Party Cookies

Some third-party services we use may set their own cookies:

  • Stripe: Sets cookies for secure payment processing and fraud prevention when you check out.
  • Mapbox: May set cookies when loading maps for kitchen discovery and delivery tracking.
  • Google/Apple Sign-In: May set cookies during the social sign-in flow.

These third-party cookies are governed by the respective providers' cookie policies. We do not control these cookies.

4. Managing Cookies

You can control and manage cookies in several ways:

  • Browser settings: Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent the Platform from functioning correctly.
  • Device settings: On mobile devices, you can manage cookies through your device's privacy settings.
  • Opt-out links: For Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. Local Storage and Similar Technologies

In addition to cookies, we use browser local storage for:

  • Theme preference (dark/light mode)
  • Cart contents between sessions
  • Cached kitchen discovery filters

Local storage data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. You can clear it through your browser's developer tools or settings.

6. Do Not Track

Kitchen Yard respects the "Do Not Track" (DNT) browser signal. When we detect a DNT signal, we disable non-essential analytics tracking.

7. International Users and GDPR

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar privacy laws:

  • We process your data based on legitimate interest for essential cookies and consent for analytics cookies.
  • You have the right to withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies or adjusting your browser settings.
  • We do not transfer personal data outside of the jurisdictions where our service providers operate (primarily the United States). Our providers (Supabase, Stripe, Google) maintain appropriate data transfer safeguards including Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Data Protection Rights (GDPR/UK GDPR)

  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
